Blondie, I think the JW got the idea (whether directly or indirectly) from some of Russell's literature. That is because I think I read in Russell's literature that the term "day and the hour" doesn't mean that Christians couldn't learn the year (and the season and the month). I think that Russell might have also written that while Jesus and others didn't know the time (or even the year) when Jesus spoke the words in the 1st century AD/B.C.E, people in Russell's day could learn it because Jehovah provided inspiration/insight then.

1914- responsible for the biggest decrease in JW's?
by joey jojo intheres a couple of threads re: 1914 on the board right now and it got me thinking.. the jw doctrine of the 1914 generation is a key doctrine , yet it is probably the number one reason most have left over the decades.. 1975- within one generation.. 1995 - new understanding of the word generation.. 2010- overlapping generation first mentioned- some anointed survive armageddon.. 2015- infamous overlapping generations chart featuring david splane.. its obvious the org is changing the goalposts and constantly trying to squeeze as much time as they can before they have to abandon this altogether.
or will they come up with something new?.
does anyone else think this ever changing doctrine is responsible for the biggest loss of members?.

by Foolednomore inis it possible that jw's would get so worn out by watchtower 's bullshit that they would stand up gather their stuff and walk out of a meeting or a convention.

Sea Breeze, that terminology you used is very informative. I wish I had thought of it that way when I was a baptized JW, and especially prior to being baptized. The JW people telling me thought-stopping cliche's were in effect trying to get me to stop thinking about the matters, even if they didn't realize that is what they were doing. In turn they learned those expressions, and the idea that one should use such, from reading the WT's literature. That is one more insidious way the WT manipulated me! Drats! If JW people hadn't spoken that way to me (though it probably happened only a few times) and if the WTS literature hadn't instructed people that way (something they did more often) I probably would have thought about the matters more and possibly left sooner or never got baptized as a JW.
Folks, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thought-terminating_clich%C3%A9 for more information. One example it gives is "Stop thinking so much." The people saying such might mean well, but in some situations it would be beneficial to think more about what one was thinking about at the time. But ending a certain line of thought is not always a bad thing to do, it depends on the reason for doing so.
I wish that some make a list of the statements in WTS literature which are used by the WTS to manipulate people, including examples of use of thought-stopping cliche's. Listing numerous instances of such would help me and others to see not just the types used but also the frequency of the usage.

Start of the Great Tribulation will be announced soon
by joey jojo inat the 2021 annual meeting, samuel herd revealed new light and claimed the anointed will all have passed away before armageddon.
it has since been revealed that while they will die before armageddon, there will be some anointed still around that will witness the start of the great tribulation.. so the question is, how many years until the existing members of the governing body have passed away?.
im not a doctor, but based on their age and various stages of obesity, im thinking 10- 15 years- give or take, sounds about right.. with that in mind, the great tribulation could be announced any day.. the new understanding has now freed the org from the burden of having to identify a particular generation in relation to the date of armageddon.

blondie, don't you mean 120 years before the flood, instead of 120 days before the flood?

Please provide specific examples of edits/revisions and re-issuing of publications. I ask this because though I have read a number of posts saying such are happening, I have read many specific examples of such having happened. The claims being made are very interesting to me.

blondie, do you have examples of the WTS editing past publications and re-issuing the new books regarding the length of the creative days? Is the revised edition of the Life How Did It Get Here? By Evolution of By Creation book one of them?

Folks, I recently very quickly browsed the video about the letter. What I read of the letter is something which I think could have a big impact if many present JWs were to read it. That is because it contains in concentrated form a large number of weird, and in some cases even disturbing, claims of the WT.
Before I got baptized as a JW I was aware of some of the claims, but had never kept more than a few or several of such examples in my mind during an hour, or even spread out over a month or a year. If I read a short document containing so many of such claims (siting WT publications I had already read or at least had easy access to) it would have convinced me not to become a JW! That is because it would have convinced me that the religion is too unreliable and too risky for me to officially join it, even if it is correct about the Bible being Jehovah God's word, the trinity, hell, human soul, paradise Earth, the nearness of the great tribulation, and some other main teachings of the WT.
Note that for a time the WT had a policy stating that even unbaptized persons who had been regularly associating with the congregation could end up being treated as ones whom JWs should not associate with (citing 1 Corinthians 15:33)! See page 174 of the 1972 WT book called Organization for Kingdom-Preaching and Disciple-Making and in regards to unbaptized minors see the last paragraph of page 175. See also pages 148 - 149 of the 1983 WT book called Organized To Accomplish Our Ministry. Page 149 of the latter book said "A brief announcement is made that the person is no longer recognized as an approved associate. (1 Cor. 15:33) The congregation will then view the wrongdoer as they view one who has been disfellowshipped." The WT later issued updates of the latter book's policy in pages 18 - 19 of the 11-15-1988 WT and in page 29 of the 02-18-1989 WT. The 1983 book was revised in 1989.

waton, I never had individual issues of the WT and AW prior to issues of the early 1970s or so (probably no earlier than 1974 ones), ones prior to a few or several years after my birth. At a thrift store had bought some WT bound volumes possibly containing content from as far back as 1960 but I am not sure of that. Were you in the religion (or raised in the religion) prior to the year 1950?

Congregation in PA sues over mandatory reporting
by Corney inivy hill congregation of jehovah's witnesses is currently suing the pa department of human services.
it requests "a declaration that its elders are entitled to" clergy privilege, or, in the alternative,.
to the extent that the clergyman privilege is determined to exclude its elders on the basis that they are "members of [a] religious organization[] in which members other than the leader thereof are deemed clergymen or ministers," the court declare the statute to be unconstitutional.

Note that https://www.catechismclass.com/catholic_bible_study.php says the following. "Catholics are taught not to independently interpret the Bible but, we are encouraged to read the Bible." Doesn't that sound like the WT saying JWs should not study/interpret the Bible independently of the WT?

The Watchtower has Vatican envy. The WT is trying to copy portions of the organizational and legal structure of the Roman Catholic Church.
The WT/JW religion wants all of the legal rights of the Catholic Church while wanting to continue claiming they don't have a clergy class, are not part of Christendom (despite claiming they are the headquarters of the earthly organization of Christ's kingdom), do not have a hierarchy, that their governing body and other Bethel members take a vow of poverty, that they are God's channel and they in some sense receive inspiration from God, that they are the one and only true religion, that they disfellowship some JWs (in other words practice a form of excommunication - even more severe than that of the Catholic church), that they have a legal entity which is called the "Religious Order of Jehovah's Witnesses" (the Catholic Church also has an order), etc. The Religious Order of Jehovah's Witnesses was organized on August 21, 2000 - the same year the WT said the governing body of JWs is no longer a part of the WT corporation.
The WT operates inquisitions - known as Judicial Committees in which they try JWs for heresies and on other matters. The WT says JWs shoul not study the Bible without the guidance of the WT doctrinal literature. The Catholic Church says Catholics should not study the Bible without the guidance of the Catholic Church's literature.
